I had a scheduled induction for 8/14 because my family was coming through Spokane that day and going to stay the night at my house with Oliver so Wes could stay with me at the hospital. I woke up Wed at about 3am contracting a little bit. They hurt enough to wake me up, but were only happening every 10 minutes. I went to the hospital at 6:00am for my induction as scheduled, they gave me my first dose of antibiotics and Dr Milligan said it was up to me how I wanted to be induced. We could start Pit in a couple hours or he could break my water after the 2nd dose of antibiotics. Since I was delivering in our new unit with awesome jetted tubs I decided I wanted to postpone the pitocin so I didn't have to be monitored continuously and be able to go in the tub once I started hurting. So I contracted occasionally and walked for a while until about 11:00 when Dr Milligan came back and broke my water. I my body started to kick in after that. I started contracting every 3 minutes or so within the hour. I had some fentanyl for pain which really just made me super tired and a little dizzy...it made the contractions a little more bearable. Then I got in the tub, which really just made me too hot and didn't help enough with the pain to stay in there for long. It was about 2:00 (I think) and my nurse Dani checked me and I was 4 cm and I was ready for my epidural! The CRNA Beth was amazing and got it in super fast and I was comfortable in no time. I threw up shortly after that and I think I was complete by like 4 (because I could feel a little more pressure) but Dani had just checked me at 3 and I was 5 so we waited another hour and I was complete at 5:00pm. So Dani got everything set up and I started pushing at about 5:30pm. The labor and delivery nurse in me expected to push a few times and have a baby because thats how most people are with babies that aren't their first! Not the case for me! I had to push for 45 minutes!! I was so annoyed! When he came out we found out why though he weighed 8-13 which is 1 lb 3 oz more than Oliver weighed. Apparently I should have been induced sooner so I wouldn't have a huge baby!! The first thing I think I said after he came out is that he looks just like Oliver! They look a lot alike, but Cooper has dimples! I'm not sure where they came from but I love them!! Recovery has been much easier this time around though, I've been feeling pretty good and Cooper has been a great baby so far!
